November Updates

I don’t know where the time is going, but November already seems to be flying by. Here are some reminders about what’s going on this month.

We will be wrapping up WKCE state testing this week. On Thursday and Friday, the students will be completing the math testing.

Accordion folders: There is still a little confusion with this. Students have a “bring back” and a “leave home” slot in their folders. When notes or papers that have been corrected have been put in their mailboxes, they should be put in the “leave home” slot for you to look at and keep at home or throw away. Other papers in the subject slots should stay there until I tell the students to take it out and leave at home or throw away.

Math: The kids have been getting daily fact sheets to take home to practice their speed. They should be timed. I will collect all the sheets for the week on Mondays & I’ll give them a little reward for their extra effort. They were also given practice sheets to keep at home. If you make copies, or put them in a plastic sheet protector, this is another tool that can be used for extra practice. Some students have shown theirs to the class and shared how they’ve been using them.

Independent reading: The class did a nice job on making their goals for October. Please make sure their calendar is kept in a safe spot. On the backside of this sheet is a copy of the grading for reading minutes. They must meet 300 minutes, and complete the genre sheet to qualify for the monthly celebration.

Daily/Weekly Activities: Here is a reminder of things that students should be doing routinely.
*practicing spelling words
*practicing multiplication/division facts
*daily math sheet (M4T)
*weekly geography (Geo book)
*independent reading
I now have a “blog” on the school website. We are being encouraged to “go green”, so I will be trying to post class information here. I will let the students know when I have entered, but try to get into a habit of checking this. You can look at any staff member’s blog. Mr. Fischer has one, also. To get to the blog site, just find our school on the left, click on “teacher blogs”, and click on the teacher’s name. Or you type in my address:
