I don’t know where the time is going, but November already seems to be flying by. Here are some reminders about what’s going on this month.
We will be wrapping up WKCE state testing this week. On Thursday and Friday, the students will be completing the math testing.
Accordion folders: There is still a little confusion with this. Students have a “bring back” and a “leave home” slot in their folders. When notes or papers that have been corrected have been put in their mailboxes, they should be put in the “leave home” slot for you to look at and keep at home or throw away. Other papers in the subject slots should stay there until I tell the students to take it out and leave at home or throw away.
Math: The kids have been getting daily fact sheets to take home to practice their speed. They should be timed. I will collect all the sheets for the week on Mondays & I’ll give them a little reward for their extra effort. They were also given practice sheets to keep at home. If you make copies, or put them in a plastic sheet protector, this is another tool that can be used for extra practice. Some students have shown theirs to the class and shared how they’ve been using them.
Independent reading: The class did a nice job on making their goals for October. Please make sure their calendar is kept in a safe spot. On the backside of this sheet is a copy of the grading for reading minutes. They must meet 300 minutes, and complete the genre sheet to qualify for the monthly celebration.
Daily/Weekly Activities: Here is a reminder of things that students should be doing routinely.
*practicing spelling words
*practicing multiplication/division facts
*daily math sheet (M4T)
*weekly geography (Geo book)
*independent reading
I now have a “blog” on the school website. We are being encouraged to “go green”, so I will be trying to post class information here. I will let the students know when I have entered, but try to get into a habit of checking this. You can look at any staff member’s blog. Mr. Fischer has one, also. To get to the blog site, just find our school on the left, click on “teacher blogs”, and click on the teacher’s name. Or you type in my address:

November Updates
I hope everyone was able to rest up over the long weekend, and are feeling rested and healthy.
We will be resuming the WKCE state testing this week. On Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday the students will be taking the Language Arts and Reading portions of the tests. Next Thursday (12) and Friday (13) they will be taking the Math tests. Remind your child to get a good night's sleep, and to eat a good breakfast.
On Tuesday, November 10, we are fortunate to be able to go the the high school to see their production of "The Sound of Music". It is so much fun for the kids to experience this event. They may see a brother or sister, neighbor or cousin, or even know someone in the production. It's a big deal for them to go to the "big school". It'll be a fun morning.
All students who met their reading minutes and completed their genre sheet for the month of October will be able to celebrate with Mrs. Sullivan's classroom this Friday afternoon. They may bring a snack and a drink (yes, they may bring a caffeine free soda if they wish) to enjoy while they relax and watch a movie.
The November genre is to read a non-fiction book. A few students have completed it already. Way to go! Their genre sheet is due on November 11.
We had two students pass out of the multiplication time test in less than 4 minutes. Congratulations to Brianne & Logan! Keep practicing. The kids will start bringing home little sheets to do quick practice at home. They are to time themselves to help gain speed, but should correct or fill in any facts that they left blank. Thanks for your help with this.
REMINDER: November 18 Early Dismissal
November 26 & 27 NO SCHOOL--Thanksgiving Break
Our Fall Celebration was wonderful. Thank you to everyone who was able to contribute items for this. We had lots of good things to eat and drink. We appreciated it!
